A play is an action in a match which leads to a score or stoppage. Plays can be contests against an opponent for which matchups are worked out in a raffle. Strings of successful plays retaining possession of the ball are called chains, and can result in scoring attempts using a 4d6 dice roll.
- Stoppage mostly between two rucks, consisting of separate Ruck and Tap contests;
- Pack play mostly between midfielders after a stoppage, with an Extract contest to possess the ball followed by a Clear contest to dispose it;
- Spread happens after a Pack or Rebound play, and mostly involves midfielders running to receive in a Sprint and then deliver into the forward line with either a Pass or a Snap for goal;
- Lead when a Spread results in a successful Pass, with Jump and Mark contests then a Set Shot;
- Crumb play mostly between a forward and back which happens after a Pack play in either forward line results in a win to the attacking team, or after a Turnover in attack – the attacker must win a Rove contest to possess the ball then Evade the defender to move on to Snap
- Rebound happens after a lost contest in defence and Turnover happens after a lost contest in midfield, with the same contests as Spread but passes going to midfield;
- Snap or Set Shot which can produce a goal (six points) or behind (one point).
