Named positions on Australian rules football teamsheets have long since become less important as team structures have evolved, but they still mean something and in Mr Football there are restrictions on where you can name a player depending on their body type and skill set. Restriction traits allow naming players out of position, but apply penalties of -3 tickets to every contest and -3 to every 4d6 roll:
- #key players do best in the FF, CHF, CHB or FB “spine” positions, depending on whether they are backs or forwards;
- #third-tall players should not be named in the spine;
- #flanker players are not suited to the BP or FP positions;
- #stays-deep players will not do as well at the HB or HF positions;
- #onballer players do poorly when named on a W;
- #brittle players should not line up at RK or INT1;
- and #giraffe players look like a fish out of water anywhere except RK or INT1.
Players who will be penalised on the teamsheet according to these position traits are highlighted in red.
